What is NEXLIZET?

NEXLIZET is a prescription medicine that contains 2 cholesterol-lowering medicines, bempedoic acid and ezetimibe. It is used, along with diet and other lipid-lowering medicines, in the treatment of adults who need additional lowering of “bad” cholesterol (LDL-C) and have:

  • heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH), an inherited condition that causes high levels of LDL-C, and/or
  • known cardiovascular disease due to high levels of bad cholesterol

It is not known if NEXLIZET can decrease problems related to high cholesterol, such as heart attacks or stroke.

Who should not take NEXLIZET?

Do not take NEXLIZET if you are allergic to ezetimibe tablets. Ezetimibe, one of the ingredients in NEXLIZET, can cause serious allergic reactions. Stop taking NEXLIZET and call your doctor, or go to the nearest emergency room, if you have the following:

  • swelling of your face, lips, mouth, or tongue
  • wheezing or trouble breathing
  • severe itching and/or skin rashes, redness, or swelling
  • dizziness or fainting
  • fast heartbeat or pounding in your chest

What should I tell my doctor before taking NEXLIZET?

Tell your doctor if you:

  • have ever had an allergic reaction to ezetimibe
  • have, or have ever had, gout
  • have, or have ever had, tendon problems
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding, or may become pregnant or plan to breastfeed
  • have severe kidney problems
  • have moderate or severe liver problems
  • are taking simvastatin, pravastatin, cyclosporine, fibrates, or cholestyramine

What is the most important safety information I should know about NEXLIZET?

NEXLIZET can cause side effects that can become serious, including:

  • high levels of uric acid in the blood, which can lead to gout, a painful joint condition. Call your doctor if you have any of the following symptoms:
  • severe foot pain, especially in the toe joint
  • warm joints
  • swelling
  • tender joints
  • joint redness
  • tendon problems: Stop taking NEXLIZET immediately and get medical help right away if you get any of the following signs or symptoms of tendon rupture:
  • hear or feel a snap or pop in a tendon area
  • bruising right after an injury in a tendon area
  • unable to move the affected area or put weight on the affected area

What are the common side effects of NEXLIZET?

Tell your doctor right away about any side effect you experience. NEXLIZET can cause side effects, including:

  • symptoms of the common cold or flu
  • muscle spasms
  • back pain
  • stomach pain
  • bronchitis
  • pain in the shoulders, legs, or arms
  • diarrhea
  • fatigue

Your doctor may check your blood for side effects that you might not be able to feel.

NEXLIZET is a tablet that you take by mouth. It contains 180 mg of bempedoic acid and 10 mg of ezetimibe.

Can I take NEXLIZET with other medicines?

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including both prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Especially tell your doctor if you take, or plan to take:

  • simvastatin or pravastatin (other cholesterol-lowering medicines). Your doctor may change the dose for these medicines if taking them with NEXLIZET
  • cyclosporine (often used in organ transplant patients)
  • fibrates (other cholesterol-lowering medicines)
  • cholestyramine (another cholesterol-lowering medicine)
